Overview
Kickball is a well-funded Silicon Valley startup building creative tools and a marketplace for digital goods, initially focused on artwork and graphic design – check out Sketchfu.com for an early example of our work. Since starting up last year, our network of sites has quickly grown to over 600,000 registered users creating 100,000 items a week – all of this created by an elite team of 5 engineers. Kickball is backed by top-tier investors who have built successes like Twitter, Netscape, MySQL, Skype, and many others.

The engineering team is lean and quick – we use paper prototyping, agile development, test driven development, and A/B testing to deploy daily releases to the world. Engineers are directly involved in business decisions like user acquisition and monetization, and receive constant feedback from customers via analytics and e-mail contact. Our development stack is 100% open source and is built on Ruby on Rails.

Frontend Engineer role
Your responsibilities at Kickball will be to:

Build a fun, creative consumer experience for millions of people worldwide
Lead discussions around visual and interactive design and champion high-quality product experiences
Design and prototype customer-facing products using OmniGraffle, Photoshop, Balsamiq, and other tools
Translate your designs into cross-browser compliant, standards-based code
Handcode clean, beautiful and maintainable JS, XHTML, CSS
Maintain your code in Git and work directly with the engineering team
Collaborate as a team on business decisions around traffic acquisition, metrics, and monetization
Assist on qualitative and quantitative user research, ethnographic studies, and usability testing
Reports directly to CTO/co-founder

Technologies we use
You should want to learn or have prior experience with the following:

Canvas, Flash/Flex, Actionscript 3 for RIA development
Compass, Blueprint, Rails, jQuery, Haml, and Sass for frontend development
Cucumber, Bacon, Watir, and Git for testing and source control
Munin, God, and Vlad for monitoring and deployment

Qualifications

BA/MA or equivalent experience
Strong professional experience in visual design, user experience, and interaction design
An eye for color, typography, graphic design, illustration
Experience working with user generated content, online social interactions, or e-commerce products
Development experience in Ruby and front-end frameworks/technologies
Familiar with Adobe Flash/Flex, Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent creative tools
Passion for crafting an amazing consumer experience

What we are looking for

We are looking for a JavaScript developer to join our front-end team.

You will be expert in XHTML and CSS and complex multi column CSS only layout will not faze you one bit.

On the JavaScript front you will have experience of using and adding to a JS library and ideally direct experience with Mootools. You will be used to creating your own plugins.

The Role

Some experience of a server side language will be useful, but will not be called upon in day-to-day work.
