full time Web Developer OPPORTUNITY / Cloud & Online Ad Tech Start-up

at AppNexus in New York City, NY

AppNexus is looking for a web developer with solid JavaScript and PHP, MySQL experience to become a core member of a sharp, dynamic team. We are building a next-generation, real-time transactional platform within our own cloud. We are rapidly developing new interfaces, tools, and applications that allow our clients to trade on a stream of online media— as well as visualize massive quantities of analytics data. We’re way ahead of the curve in development of real time advertising technology, which is why our clients are some of the most sophisticated players in the industry: EBay, Fox Interactive Media (MySpace), Orbitz to name a few.

We need an efficient and agile engineer who is motivated by solving interesting technical challenges: building new applications quickly to support a distributed system that responds in a few milliseconds to billions of requests each day — 24/7, 365 days a year.
The position requires a problem solving mindset as much as it requires JS and PHP development skills. The ideal candidate is hands-on when designing applications and is comfortable coding off of a problem statement instead of a formal spec. Our environment is open, collaborative, and encourages learning. We release new code at least once a week (as continuous deployment actually increases reliability), so you must be both fast and accurate with your code and confident in your work. You’ll immediately see the results of your work and creativity — as will the rest of our team, our clients, and the world at large.

If this is a role that sounds more exciting than ominous, please email us at careers@appnexus.com.
Please address this specific opportunity in your COVER LETTER to be considered.

Requirements
• At least 2 – 5 years of production development experience
• Advanced JavaScript, HTML and CSS usage a must, jQuery framework preferred
• Proficiency in object oriented PHP 5
• Experience using web services
• Experience with server side application development
• Experience with LAMP and version control
• Experience with writing unit tests within a testing framework
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, 24-7 environment

About AppNexus

At AppNexus we’re harnessing the power of our own cloud computing infrastructure and building next-generation online media technology—AdNexus Display Engine. We know the major limitations within the online advertising marketplace are massive fragmentation of companies, services & technology providers— as well as the speed with which they’re able to do business. Fortunately, technology evolves.

Built on our high-performance cloud-computing platform, we bridge the gap between the various Networks of Online Advertisers, Publishers, Data providers and Ad Exchanges—and we do it in real-time. In milliseconds we retrieve data, evaluate, and connect the highest value customers for mutual benefit. Using smart technologies and strategies for optimization, we maximize efficiency and return for our clients—some of the biggest and most sophisticated players in the online media space.

Our people are smart and experienced. Our founders are successful serial entrepreneurs. The core team is built of savvy start-up veterans that engineered, optimized, and supported the Right Media Ad Exchange. AppNexus has had the advisory and investor support of Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, and Jason Rosenthal from LoudCloud / OpsWare; Khosla Ventures; First Round Capital; Venrock; Kodiak Venture Partners; and “The Godfather of Silicon Valley” Ron Conway.

We offer Competitive Salary, Equity, Benefits and huge upside opportunity.
