Nokia produces in a year more than 500 million mobile devices with rich communication, media and sensing capabilities. In addition to device manufacturing data, Nokia’s emerging services, software and content platforms result in terabytes of diverse data.

The Data Insight program in Nokia Research Center focuses on the challenges and opportunities of such data. The team aims to perform world-class research on processes and techniques to derive insights to data. The program’s approach combines the theoretical foundations of data analysis and computer science to hands-on skills in rapid development of scalable systems.

We are an interdisciplinary, agile team with a just-do-it attitude. We focus on scalable solutions for data understanding and utilization. To that end, you will collaborate with machine learning, distributed systems and visualization researchers in the team, and are eager for active communication with colleagues whose core competencies might be in other topics.

Qualifications

As an expert in building user interfaces, you will be responsible for implementing engaging, visually appealing, intuitive user interfaces for data-intensive applications.

We are looking for someone who:

• is extremely comfortable with web technologies, such as JavaScript, jQuery, Ajax, and CSS
• has a strong passion for programming, and not only design interfaces, but build them from start to finish if necessary
• devotes enthusiastic attention to user experience and goals, and test/refine consistently
• has experience producing customer-facing web applications

• has a solid sense of graphical aesthetics including attention to navigation, layout, color, and typography

Other relevant experience includes Processing, OpenGL, and Flash/ActionScript. Expertise in other programming languages, such as Python, Haskell, and C is highly desirable. You should be well motivated to learn relevant techniques together with other team members. Likewise, willingness to educate colleagues on various UI methods and foundations is highly appreciated.
