Front End Web Developer

WHO WE ARE:
pingg is a one year old company founded by veteran entrepreneurs Matt Harrop, Lorien Gabel (Interlog, BOAW Networks) and Stephan Paternot (TheGlobe.com). pingg is taking a fresh look at online event invitations, a market that is deperately in need of a shake up. We have a new take, a new business model, and intend to shake up and grow a market that desperately needs it. Our development office is located in Toronto where two of the founders have roots, and our head office is in New York City. The company is funded by the founders and a mix of professional investors, wealthy individuals, and recently accepted completed a significant venture funding round lead by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
We're looking for a web developer with creative energy, enthusiasm, a feel for user interface, strong coding skills, and a desire to learn by doing. We need someone to build a cutting edge Ajax interface, but also someone who understands that all that Ajaxy goodness is a means to an end, not the reason we're here. You will be part of a five person core development team. You will have a great deal of responsibility and will directly contribute to the success of the team and the company in a very visible way. You will work closely with the founders, graphic designers and the development team. You will participate in product design decisions, with a particular focus on usability and interface. You will code everything our customers see. If you like watching your best code go live and directly onto the screens of real customers, you'll fit right in.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: You'll be working in our casual, friendly office in downtown Toronto. We're a small, dedicated team with no time for bureaucracy or irritating office politics. (It's a start up, not a bank.) You'll work in Toronto and travel to New York on occasion, if you can live with having an excuse to spend some time down here. Be comfortable where you work, work on cool stuff, and be happy when you go home - you'll live longer!
You will be working with:
Javascript, xhtml, AJAX and css
Prototype/Scriptaculous and the ExtJS libraries
Know a tool that will make the application better? You'll be working with that too.
In this role you will need:
A solid understanding of website fundamentals: DOM, xhtml, Javascript, css
Hands-on experience building websites with client-side scripting
Ability to take charge of solving a problem, from beginning to end
Ability to work closely with others in the company, and also independently when required
Experience mitigating cross-browser quirks
Experience with Ruby on Rails and Prototype/Scriptaculous a plus
Experience working with MySQL also a plus
