About the Team

EdgeControl is Akamai’s Portal. It provides our customers, channel partners, and internal staff visibility and control over Akamai’s products and services. Through the Portal our customers get a global picture of how the Akamai system and the Internet are behaving, can fine-tune their web properties, access information about their Internet services and interact with Akamai’s support team.

About the Job

As Senior UI Engineer you will be leading the user interface technology direction for the Akamai portal. You will be responsible for the presentation architecture as well as developing library elements to support this architecture. Additionally, your expertise will influence best practices in collaboration with the Portal Engineering team to provide the best interactive experience for Akamai’s customers using modern web UI technologies such as Ajax.

Responsibilities

• Collaboratively define UI architecture with Portal Engineering team.
• Create or choose tools that will raise the excellence of the web presentation layer.
• Work as an evangelist to drive the best agile UI software methodologies and the adoption of standards used across engineering teams.
• Prototype and implement UI enhancements to improve usability, responsiveness, and overall interface richness of the portal.
• Research web development best practices and define strategies around them.
• Develop and implement plan for migrating existing architecture.
• Ensure a consistent look-and-feel for the entire portal.

• Provide a highly interactive experience while improving overall responsiveness and performance of web pages.

Basic Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Overall Experience: 5-7 years or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of experience using Ajax frameworks such as YUI (Yahoo UI), Dojo, Prototype, and Scriptaculous.
• Significant experience with driving web-based UI architectures for multiple well-trafficked external websites.
• Expert-level knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Solid understanding of the DOM.
• Solid knowledge of JSP, Java, and Java servlets.
• Strong sense of the requirements for a great user interface.
• Deep knowledge of accessibility concerns.
• Deep understanding of cross-browser development techniques.
• Strong knowledge of current open source tools and solutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work seamlessly in a team development environment.
• Desire to work in a fast paced, evolving, growing, dynamic environment.
• Complete understanding of the full-cycle development (design, development and testing).
• Passion for intuitive, interactive, and fast user interfaces.

• Relentless in the pursuit of improving the consistency of the customer experience.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience developing Flex applications is a strong plus.
