full time JavaScript / jQuery developer - work from home

at Adaptavist.com in

Most enterprise web apps suck because all the effort goes in to just the server-side aspects of the system and the UI is almost an afterthought. We believe if the UI is pants, the user can't use the software. If the user can't use the software, it's useless no matter how amazing the back-end is. That's why we need you!

We've got all kinds of UI scenarios - from social networking to system configuration - that need some ninja action to make them easier and more pleasing to use.

We develop solutions for a diverse range of customers in over 55 countries and want to make the end-user experience wonderful rather than "just ok".

We make extensive use of jQuery and are also developing several open-source jQuery plugins geared for enterprise use. We avoid using prototype, script.aculo.us and mootools - while they are powerful libraries, we've standardised on jQuery internally because we believe it's the best approach for enterprise applications and results in more easily maintainable code.

Your work must function correctly on Firefox, Safari, Opera and (sorry...) MSIE. We're happy for MSIE to show a more basic interface that will be progressively enhanced when viewed by a browser that isn't broken.

The ideal candidate will be versed in jQuery, progressive enhancement, AJAX, semantic HTML, accessibility (ideally ARIA) and be extremely self-motivated and passionate about their work.

At Adaptavist, we work hard to do things right – products ship when they are ready, as defined by the developers and customer beta testers. We prefer small iterations and an agile approach.

We're a small company and everyone is expected to play an active role in the development and future direction of the company. Like all members of staff, you'll be working from home (or anywhere that has an internet connection).

You can find more info about the role, company and stuff we do on our website.
