full time Senior Web Developer

at ByLedge, Inc. in Boston, MA

Company Overview
We are a stealth mode venture backed startup building a consumer-oriented information-centric service. Our current team consists of industry vets and rock stars from the database, search, and online worlds. We’ve done this before but we don’t have all the answers – that’s why we need you!

Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Web Developer for our front end UI development team. The successful candidate will help design, develop, and support our application front-end. This is a new company attacking an old idea in a completely new way. On your first day you’ll be issued a machete, a compass and a water bottle so you can hack your way through the jungle (oh yeah you’ll probably get a computer too). If you don’t like bushwhacking, we’re the wrong company for you.

You should be well versed in modern web implementation techniques and be pathologically interested in producing a high quality web application that’s aesthetically pleasing and wicked fast. You will have the opportunity to shape a completely novel user experience from day one.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design & implement a novel and compelling user experience leveraging our IP
  • Drive key design decisions with respect to front-end architecture and technology stack
  • Take a leadership position on software engineering infrastructure – we will look to you to help drive key decisions around software tools, process, and practices

Qualifications

  • 5+ years public-facing website construction
  • Deeply versed in web infrastructure & W3C standards (HTML, CSS, Web Scripting languages)
  • Knowledge of XML & Semantic Web technologies (XSLT, XPATH, XQUERY, RDF, OWL)
  • Experience building horizontally scalable multi-tiered web applications, preferably in Java
  • Experience in designing for and testing under large data volumes and stress conditions desirable
  • Experience in the use of agile processes and test driven development a plus
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar technical degree

Other Skills

  • Excellent People Skills – Demonstrated ability to work with both technical and non-technical individuals without pissing them off. We want to make some money, but after all this should be fun!
  • Effective in a team environment as well as working independently (remember that compass? You’re gonna need it).
  • We’re looking for evidence that you’re self-motivated, innovative, communicative, hardworking, and personally reliable – if you commit to something, you deliver it.
